Did you know that chocolate is a source of lead?!

I had just finished posting on Instagram & a reel popped up from a lawyer updating people on the Lindt class action. What?!

Yep, Lindt & Sprüngli, the renowned Swiss chocolatier, is currently facing a class-action lawsuit in the United States concerning allegations of elevated levels of heavy metals lead and cadmium in its dark chocolate products

The lawsuit, initiated in February 2022 was spurred by a 2022 Consumer Reports investigation that tested 28 dark chocolate bars sold in the U.S.,revealing that certain Lindt products (including 70% and 85% cacao bars) contained higher-than-acceptable levels of these heavy metals.

I had heard bits and pieces of chocolate being a source of heavy metals over the past couple of years but had missed that it was one of my go-to supermarket brands that was one of the main culprits when it came to lead and cadmium.

So today, I’m going to dive into lead, the sources (including chocolate), impacts of exposure, what we can do to both prevent high lead exposureand detox our bodies daily, from inevitable leadsources.

If you're a Lindt fan too, I also chat about what chocolate I’ll be reaching for instead.
